My quest to live a healthy life
Hello and welcome! I am Jane, the writer of this blog. I live in Colorado with my husband and our beloved chihuahua, Sammy. I grew up in the midwest, but never really loved it. However, I can truly say I love Colorado! !

Here you will find healthy recipes, my adventures in a whole foods lifestyle including canning, cheesemaking, gardening and making herbal remedies. I love cooking real food with ingredients that I can pronounce.
I don’t believe that eating healthy food should restrict the foods I enjoy. I still find ways to eat the foods I love. I enjoy trying new foods or new ways to enjoy the same ingredients!
I love living a simple life and being self sustaining, as much as we can. We live at 9000 feet elevation, so gardening can be tricky, but we do the best we can!
Let’s backtrack, shall we … 10 years ago I woke up one day and decided I needed to lose some weight. I was 230+ pounds and tired of it!

I worked hard and lost 90 pounds. This is the only picture of have of me back then – I have gotten rid of all the rest of them! I was embarrassed of who I was and who I had become. I maintained the majority of the weight loss, but then about 3-4 years ago I went through a tough patch and gained back 50ish of those pounds. I have always said to lose weight, you have to want to lose the weight, more than you want to eat good food! Exercise has not been a problem for me – I remain relatively active – but the food is. I convince myself I NEED to eat whatever I am craving. Well, I lost the 50 pounds, and then some! I am currently maintaining THAT weight loss.
I know I will always have a problem with food – and that is ok. I try to surround myself with healthy food and habits. I decided to start this blog to document MY journey, and hope it will inspire someone!
In 2010, I decided to try the Couch to 5K running program. I have always “wanted” to run, but was “told” I had weak ankles. Quite honestly, at 230 pounds, I probably did! I wanted to prove to myself that I could run a 5K. And I did!
This something I NEVER though I could do, yet here I am! My fitness habits vary, but I do try to find some sort of activity that I enjoy. Currently, I love walking, and try to get out most days for some sort of a walk.
In 2009, I met the love of my life through — of all places – EHarmony! We started spending more time together, and fell in love. In September of 2011, we got married in Alaska. All my wedding recaps are located on the wedding page.
So – go out there and achieve your dreams! If I can do it, anyone can! I can’t wait to see what is in store for us next!
