Bike trip!

We really do live in a beautiful place, and have so many trails around us.  I mean, we are right next to Rocky Mountain National Park, but there are so many areas around us that I have never been!  This summer, I am making it a goal of ours to get out more often and explore!

We still have snow topped peaks!  (And probably will through August or so ..)

Yesterday, we went out for a bike ride!  We both had some issues with the tires on our bikes, but once we got that fixed, we were on our way!

It really was perfect weather, a little windy, but not too breezy, and not too warm (or cool!) outside.  We just beat a storm, because when we got home it started raining!

When we first started out, we went on this trail that was so rocky.  I mean, it was like it used to be sea floor!

I guess I really am a biking wuss, cause that was not fun at all for me!  It was so bumpy – a lot of those rocks were huge!  We decided to go back to the road and just bike on that.

We are such rebels – closed gates mean nothing to us!

But, maybe not – looking closely the sign says the road is open to bikers.   Nice!

We just had to crawl under the gate!

Sammy found a little tree his size!  It is so encouraging to me seeing little trees growing – the forest is rebuilding!

Although when they talk about the “experimental forest”, I’m a little scared …

All in all, it was a fun time.  We biked a little over 8 miles by the time we got back to the car – it was getting dark outside, so we wanted to get back before it was totally dark.

The fun thing is that we gained about 1800 feet in elevation – it was all uphill to our turnaround point, and then it was all downhill!

See ya!

  1. I just love that you take Sammy in the backpack, what a lucky little guy! I wish my dogs were small enough to do stuff like that. Oh and calm enough :) Have a great weekend.

    • Yeah, it is nice that he is small enough to bring with us. He does stick his head out occasionally, I think cause the breeze feels good, but for the most part just snuggles up inside (we put his favorite blanket inside the backpack). He has a hard life :)

  2. Experimental Forest scares me a little too. I can picture a crazy man in a lab coat making weird human/tree hybrids and building an army of these monsters! Okay, now I want that horror movie to be made…

    • Well I just googled it, cause I really didn’t know what it meant – and I guess it really isn’t that scary! Here’s the link … I guess they just test water and insects and animals and how that affects the forest and things like that … It is like this highway near where I live that has a sign saying it is a “test road”. lol, I guess they have to test everything!

  3. Wow! Good for you! I keep hoping that if I read your blog long enough I’ll be motivated to do better. Right now, it’s so cold here, anything outdoors is difficult. Getting antsy!

    • haha, thanks Jane! I will admit, but the end of the ride, my hands were freezing! It has been so warm here (last week it was in the 80s almost everyday :/) … but now we are back down to the 60′s. I’m not ready for summer yet!

  4. It looks exciting and a bit daunting. But you did it! :)

  5. I spent many, many years hiking and backpacking in the southern part of the Rockies and you’re right – you can find some of the most beautiful places on earth! The hard part is going up, but there are plenty of places to stop and get an eye full. Looks like you had a wonderful day! Beautiful!

    • Wow, that is so cool! I am really trying to make it our goal to get out more this summer. For Christmas, my husband got us this book of hikes in our area that are kind of “hidden”. I’m excited to try some of them out!

  6. Thank you for taking us “along” on your beautiful ride.
