I love my husband. He really works sooo hard, and he makes me very happy. All I have to say is “I wish …”, and he will find a way to make it happen.
He is the king of repurposing items. He hardly every throws anything away! Sometimes it can be a pain, but it is nice for those times when you think of a use for something you threw away a week ago. I am always cleaning stuff out and getting rid of things ..
Take for example this backpack.
It has had a broken zipper in it since last September. He has still been using it, and finally – recently – got a new backpack. However, it is a little smaller, and he really likes this one better. So – the project was to try and replace the zipper.
I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband…
Needless to say, the project was a fail. I mean, how hard is it to sew a zipper in a backpack??? I thought about sewing by hand, and even got a few stitches in before I realized that would take precisely 8000 hours. And I really don’t have 8000 hours floating around with nothing to do …
I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband…
I made a good effort! In the end though, I couldn’t get the “ends” of the zipper sewed in, and they didn’t match up on both sides, one side was longer than the other!
So I ordered him a new backpack …..
And I decided I needed a drink!
Strawberry Mojito
Adapted from Allrecipes.com
Print this recipe!
Syrup:
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup lemon juice
2 cups strawberries, diced
For each mojito:
1/2 lime, cut in quarters
3-4 leaves mint
1 oz rum
8 oz club soda
In a medium saucepan combine the sugar, lemon juice and strawberries. Heat until the sugar is dissolved and the strawberries start to break apart – just a few minutes.
Let cool, and strain through cheesecloth.
In a small bowl, muddle the lime and mint together – I used a mortal and pestle. Add this lime and mint mixture to the strawberry syrup.
Add the rum and club soda, ice, and drink up!
Here’s to projects going better next time! {clink, clink}

So Jane, how do you feel about your husband? Ha! He sounds a lot like another fine husband that is born in May. See? Didn’t I tell you the best husbands are born in May? Replacing zippers is near impossible!

haha very true, it must be the May birthday! It was so bad .. I was getting so frustrated trying to get the backpack into the sewing machine … grrr! I had to prop it up with a bunch of material to get it high enough so it would stay in under the pressure foot. But at least I tried, and he was sooo appreciate, and now is thinking of how to make it up to me lol
Wow my blog friend; you’ve been busy. 8,000 hours ha ha ha. WTG to your husband for trying to fix the zipper. The strawberry mojito looks mighty tasty!
Ok maybe 8000 hours WAS an exaggeration (not that I ever do that …), maybe 2-3 lifetimes would be a better example! lol! The drink was a nice way to end the day
At least you tried, you certainly earned the drink!

I LOVED the backpack story! Believe me, I know what you mean about trying to hand stitch a zipper in a backpack. It’s not going to happen!
Sometimes you just have to buy another backpack.
What a great choice for a drink! The strawberries are beautiful right now and what a way to celebrate them!

Thanks MJ! It was kind of a useless situation to replace the zipper, but I had to try. At least a new one is on the way! He looked at it today and said what’s wrong with it, it is functioning! It works in the middle just the top and bottom are not sewed in lol. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the recipe. It could be a lifesaver in this summer.

For sure! It was so refreshing … mmm… I can’t wait to start using the fresh mint from my garden in it!
Better projects next time?? Heck, this sounds like some pretty good incentive to fail
And I tried to fix a backpack once–nope. I think it’s just one of those unfixable items.
