Recuperation

It really has taken me a while to get back to life as I used to know it, so to speak.  This last week I really took time and just did a whole lot of nothing.  I had the week at home to sleep, and get back to my normal schedule.  I think I am finally getting back to the new normal, but getting over this jet lag has been really hard for me!  I’m trying not to give myself a hard time about it, obviously I have needed the time to sleep and take naps whenever I feel like it!  I mean, I really worked these 2 weeks straight – going into work pretty much every day, and it was stressful being in new situations constantly.  So its ok to take my time getting back to life, right?

Sammy, of course, is ok with that.  A nap?  Sure, I’ll join you!  So Sammy and I have been spending a lot of time snuggling.

Time not spent sleeping has been spent restocking the fridge!  My husband wasn’t kidding when he said the fridge was empty and we would need to go grocery shopping!

Now that Thanksgiving is just a memory, our fridge, I am happy to say, is now full!  Several trips to Costco are part of that reason, but I really did make a lot of food for this coming week.

Partially that is because this week is back to work for me!  It has been nice to have this time to get back in the swing of things, but now I really need to focus on getting through the day without an extra nap in the middle of it!  Luckily I have a lot of food in the fridge to pull from, and not need to worry about what’s for dinner.

Another thing I am trying to focus on is getting back into an exercise routine.  While I was gone, I did try to exercise, but the combination of late nights and early mornings didn’t really help.  My coworker kept telling me not to worry about it, and I could always eat healthy and work out when I got back home.  It is hard with that kind of non-motivation to keep to a normal schedule!  Part of the problem is that I normally do a lot of walking in my day, and I really didn’t feel safe enough to do that in either London or India.  Plus, I did something to mess up my back, so even normal walking was hard for me.  (I think it was everything in my heavy backpack I was carrying around with me!)  So, now exercise has actually been fun!  I really have missed it, and it feels good to move my body and sweat a little!  The same way with healthy eating – I’m loving my veggies and salads these days!  I guess an unplanned hiatus from it really is helping me appreciate it now.

So – my plan for this next month – is to eat as healthy as I can, and workout as much as I can.  I know that my work schedule doesn’t give me a lot of time to work out, and I’m not going to stress about it.  I am going to try and workout when I have time/energy, but also bring back the 30 Day Dumbbell Challenge.  I tried this before, but gave up after only a few days into it.  I like it, because it is focused weight training exercises that don’t take up a lot of time.  So far, I’m on day 2 and going strong!

Good thing I have all these weights sitting in my living room!

  1. I’ve read where lack of sleep and lots of stress make people hold onto weight, so for those reasons alone, good that you napped and took care of yourself. Have a great week!

  2. Doesn’t Sammy look all cozy? I think after your trip rest is an important element to your day. I need to step up my exercise and your photo of the weights inspires me! Joe was just saying last night, “We need to shorten our dinner time and exercise.” If I exercised as much as I eat I’d be in great shape ;) Have a pleasant Monday!

  9. Welcome home Jane! I’m trying to catch up on blog reading but have to hop in the shower and get to work so hopefully I can catch up after I get home from work. I’m so glad you had a week to relax and get back on a normal schedule before starting work again. I can’t wait to read how your trip went. I bet you were so happy to come home to hubby and Sammy! Good luck with your challenge, that rocks!

  10. That 11 or 12 hour time difference is no joke! And I think it takes a lot longer to recover when you are traveling west. I’m glad you were able to get in those naps when you needed them– looking forward to your Indian recipes when you get to posting them.

  11. Hello Jane! So good to have you back :) I am glad that you have slowly eased yourself to your routine. Remember that the time change and the stress of being in a different place, can wreck havoc with your day to day routine. Now, you are really motivated to start where you left off! :) m.

    • Thanks Maria! I will say that I am finally sleeping through the night, so I think my body just needed the extra time to get back into its schedule.

  12. Hi Jane. I “awww’d” out loud at little Sammy.

  13. I know you are happy to be back home. It does take a while to get over jet lag…nice that you could work from home. Don’t push yourself too much for another week and you should be back to your normal routine.

  14. Sammy is super cute in his blanket. And I love that blanket. Love the colors. Did you make it?

    • Thank you! Actually, I didn’t make it, it was something my husband had before we got married :) I’m not sure who made it! It is fun colors, and is so nice and cozy!
