I have always wanted to have a mudroom in my house! It seems like something that only rich people with big huge mansions have.
Well, now I have one!
This is the room you see when you first walk in the back door of our house. It is where the washing machine and dryer are located, and we used to have some black plastic shelves with all kinds of stuff on them. It is a pretty small area, just enough room for the washer/dryer, and there is also a closet where the water heater is. After we moved the shelves out, it was just dirty and really needed a paint job.
This sign might have been removed from the walls as well…
Part of this project was just to de-clutter, and find a place to put things! A lot of the things on these shelves just ended up in the garage.
Once we did that, I painted the walls. This paint color is called Cinnamon Toast (yummy), but I like it! We also got this sign.
I had seen these plans for making a mudroom on ana-white.com and I thought it would be perfect for our little area! I showed it to my hubby, and he thought he could build it too. Yay!
So, while I was out of the country on my trip, our mudroom was created!
There is a spot at the bottom to put shoes, racks across the middle for coats, and 2 shelves up top for whatever we want.
I LOVE it! The shelves on the top give him some space to put his tools that he didn’t want to put in the garage, but keeps it nice and neat, and fun to look at!
(It was hard to get pictures because it is such a small space!)
And a new rug for the entrance too. (Costco!)
Another problem with this area was that we kept our brooms and shovels up against the wall. Whenever we were done shoveling our deck, the shovels would just go inside. There really was no good space for them. For now, we have them outside, up against the house, but hopefully someday we can get a shed or caddy that we can put them in.
I love it! I think it gives a more calming and peaceful feeling when we walk in the house.

So cool, I love the shelf he built, it must be awesome to have a crafty husband. Here in AZ we don’t have as much need for a room like that but it would be a great place to store all of our dog walking accessories and shopping totes.

lol! It is nice just to have an area to put “stuff” when we get home!
That turned out fabulous! Kudos to the hubs on that one!

Thanks! I do love it!
Nice job! My hubs is not crafty. He’s a mechanic, so I never have to worry about a car bill but, sometimes I wish he could hang a picture too…lol! When we moved here I actually hired someone to hang my pictures. I have a mudroom too and I love it. I like the color you chose too

lol! My husband isn’t that crafty either, but he is the picture hanger around here! My dad is into woodworking, and when we go visit, my hubby loves to hang out with him to see how to do stuff. I also have some shelves I’m seeing if my hubby can build
Very nice! We don’t have a mud room either and I’d love to figure out how to make it happen. Love that rug.

Thank you
I got the rug at Costco! I like the colors.. it is better than the old piece of carpet that was there before!
I love it, Jane! It’s so very nice and what a nice thing for him to do while you were gone.

I love this!!! I love the idea of a mud room so that you don’t dirty up your entire house when you come in from the snow or rain! What kind of front loaders do you have? Do you like them? We hate ours because they are super noisy.. we are on the market for new ones!

Thanks! We have the Maytag 3000 series. Our laundry room isn’t a closed room, so we can still hear it when we are in other rooms, but I wouldn’t say it is super noisy. I like it!
I love the wall color (and the name of it too). What a nice surprise for you when you returned from your trip.
