Sprucing up the Beehive: the other bathroom

I’m back with another Sprucing up the Beehive post!  It has been a while, but we still have been working on the rooms in our house, and how we can make them a little more organized and cozy!

We have 2 bathrooms – the master bathroom, and then what do you call the other bathroom?  The guest bathroom?  Just “the bathroom”?  Anyways, it is a much smaller bathroom, but still needed a little help!

Part of the problem with this bathroom is it is just so small!  However, I still wanted to make it a functional bathroom.  Right now, we really don’t use the shower in this bathroom.  But, I wanted to make it so it could be used if we have guests.  Right now, believe it or not, this is Sammy’s bathroom (where he gets his baths!)

(I couldn’t find a picture of Sammy after his bath, but I found this one.  Do you think my husband will be mad at me for posting this one?)

I got a shower caddy and put it in the corner of the shower, which helped clear up the corners of the tub that had been holding these items!

The shower curtain that had been in this shower was super old, so I just tossed it.  I bought a clear shower liner and put it up, and for the longest time, I just left it like that!  I just could not decide what color I wanted the shower curtain to be.  Finally, I found this clear one, and decided to go with it!  I really like how it looks!

I chose this kinda dark orangish color for the walls.  It is called Caramel Sauce, and does look like the color of caramel sauce!

The wall opposite the toilet was the hard part.  Before, there had been a mirror there, as well as a towel bar.  However, due to where the stud was, the towel bar was very awkward, and you could not keep the door open – it would hit where the towel bar was.  I decided that a towel bar just was not going to work, and instead got these hooks.

When my husband was hanging, we came across the “stud is not in a good place” problem.  So, the answer to our problem was ….

We bought a long piece of wood and painted it white, and hung it all across the wall, to break up the carmel-ness.  Then, we hung the hooks on that piece of wood.  And, we just happened to have these towels that match perfectly!  I really like how it turned out.

And let’s not forget the trash can.  I got this little tiny step-trashcan which fits perfectly next to the shower.  I like my trashcans to have a lid, and I love how this one looks.

I also found this little painting that I thought would match the walls and go good in the bathroom.  I mean, what kind of art are you supposed to put in a bathroom??

But my favorite part is outside the bathroom!!  There had been a little table in the hallway, but I found this little nightstand at Ikea and put in here.  It gives us a little extra storage space.  On the wall, I wanted to put some pictures, and this is what we came up with.

I found the letters at JoAnns, and painted them yellow (one of our wedding colors).  We already had the picture frame and pictures, and I just love it!

  1. Your bathroom looks great. I love your wall color and the towel hooks. We only have one bathroom and it’s tiny. I can’t wait to renovate it, but it needs so much work. We are adding the finishing touches on Carlos’ room. His room was stuck between baby and little boy. Now it’s definitely a big boy room. He loves it.

    • That’s great! I think it is so important to like your room … I know that after we redid ours, I love spending time in there so much more!

  2. Jane this bathroom looks so cute, and outside of it too. I see you are using a real soaps in your bathroom. I like that! I have only one liquid soap bottle, and it’s in my kitchen. I wanted to use there soap bars too, but there’s no place for it, my kitchen is the tiniest I’ve ever seen! :)
Back to your project. Which house is that? I know you have the “other house” too. I think you did a great job. I love your outside too, call it a romantic corner of your home. :) Nice photo of your husband and Sammy. You know that personal photos make blog more interesting to read, right? So I don’t think your husband should be mad. :)

    • Thanks Marina! This is our house in the mountains. This is where we “live”, our other place is just where we stay during the work week. :)

  3. What a great theme for a post–we have been doing a minor bathroom remodel, too–what a pain, but hopefully it will be worth it!

  4. I love the color that you chose. And the little rose hooks are perfect! My bathroom is small too and I have a very similar picture to yours only mine is 3D. I like the letters, pictures and stand outside too. Nice job! The picture of hubby and doggy too cute!

  6. I love it that Sammy has his own bathroom. And your husband shouldn’t be the least bit concerned with that photo, that’s how my husband looks all the time holding our little 4 pound Zia. Love those little towel hooks.

  7. What a great transformation! I love those little towel hooks!! And the color – awesome! I had to laugh when you said that the bathroom was small. Our master bath is even smaller. :) It has a corner shower stall. Our master closet is bigger than the bathroom!

    • Oh my gosh, really? I guess it is all perspective — we have a huge master bath, so I guess this feels tiny in comparison, and there really is no storage space, or a closet or anything. But I guess thinking back — growing up with 6 people in our family, we only had one bathroom, and it was just a little bigger than our “little” bathroom now! lol!

  8. I love those hooks!! I’m such a fan of clear shower curtains b/c they are so versatile. Plus, it feels clean!

  9. You guys did such a great job with the bathroom! I love how you problem-solved the towel hooks :)

Also, that little table in the hall is adorable. When you have guests, you could put a little basket there with shampoos and things for them!
