Recently, I have been feeling like I really want to work in the inside of our house, and just make it a little nicer. Maybe it is because winter is coming, and I know we will be spending more time inside.
Our house is really my husbands house … he lived there as a bachelor for a long time before I came into his life. So as you can imagine, it really was a bachelor’s pad. And don’t get me wrong, I love the house! It is perfect for us, and is tucked right in the mountains, which I love!
Sometimes when I walk in, I just see piles of junk (to put it nicely), and it just really started to bother me! I am just as bad as him … I have piles of “stuff”, and really no place to put them! So, I decided drastic measures were needed.
Really, this post was just the beginning! This is the first thing you see when you walk in the house … a table full of … stuff.
And then this, right above the table -
Not that I have anything against Smokey The Bear – he stands against forest fires, and here in Colorado, we have seen our share of those! I just really don’t want to look at him everyday when I walk in the door …
So the mission was on! There are 2 spare bedrooms – one I use to store my stuff, and one which is my hubby’s “office”:
I started reorganizing basically everything – all the cabinets, closets, drawers, and throwing away what we did not need. This in itself cleared out a lot of space I could use for other things. He cleaned out his room, and took out a ton of stuff he could either throw away (and the rest was moved out to the garage – hehe)
This is his room about 3/4 of the way cleaned out. We did move my jars and some of the canned goods in this room.
The staging area while we made room for everything:
And because of all the work we did, everything that was on that table was moved to his office, and now we have a dining room table!!
I am so excited! We were eating either on the couch, or a little tv tray (sitting on the couch). I just don’t want to be the kind of family that eats in front of the TV! Yay!
Every time I walk in the room, I smile. It makes me happy to see how much we have accomplished so far!
Now, I have lots of things I want to do with the house. First of all, every single window in the place has these wooden blinds.
Blah blah blah. I hate them! They are so dark and depressing to me. Plus, they are terrible to dust and keep clean!! We live in a state that has so many sunny days each year, but you wouldn’t know it from the inside of the house! I also want to paint pretty much the whole house. I don’t think any improvements have been made on the house since it was built, so I say it is about time! We spend a lot of time at home, and I want it to be a place I can feel comfortable and relax. I really should take a lesson from Sammy! He doesn’t have a problem relaxing!
BTW, that couch is on its way out too … I think it probably is half my age. At least!
So stay tuned! First up is our bedroom (why not?!?!) I already have paint colors and curtains on my mind!

You are converting a ‘bachelor house’ to a ‘family home’. Congrats!

Exactly!
It has been so long since this house has had any love — it needs a lot of work!
What colors do you have in mind for the bedroom Jane?
I picked out a very light green for the master bedroom
Yay! Organization!!! Your post might motivate me at some point, but first I have to deal with all the garden weeds. ARGH! And I must admit that my couch looks a lot like yours. I bought it new about 20 years ago (yikes) and I definitely have gotten my money’s worth from it.
The problem with couches is they are so expensive!!! Yikes! It will take me a while to save up for one I think
I need to do some organizing myself – piles of recipes are all over my house! Heart that you can eat at your dining room table. We eat in front of the t.v. every night and it drives me nuts.

I love the dining room table — it makes me so happy!
This is so exciting! We were in our first apartment for only a year and did nothing to it, which was so depressing. But we’ve been in our current place for a few years and we’ve painted and decorated and I absolutely love it every day

Cool! It really is making me happy to see all the little changes we have been able to make so far!
How fun!! I can’t wait to see the progress and the final project! I am so indecisive… I had the hardest time picking out colors!!

There is nothing better than getting the house in order. I have a “project” and a half upstairs that I’ve been dying to tackle. I think that will be my winter project because it’s way too hot to do it now & once Autumn comes – I want to be outdoors 24/7!
Great job! It’s so nice to clear piles off the tables. I get them too – and hate them!

We had to do a serious clean out this summer because of the kitchen remodel. We needed to make room for all the kitchen stuff. Like you it felt SO good to reorganize and get rid of stuff you don’t need. You’ve done a great job from what I can see and I LOVE the dining table! So cool! Good luck on you continued endeavors.

I bet you did have a huge reorganization with the remodel! Today I am actually going through our kitchen, and figuring out what I don’t need and getting rid of it! My “kitchen gadget” drawers are packed!!
You mean the junk drawer!?!
Bobby keeps bugging me “So which drawer is going to be the junk drawer?”
Love what you’ve done! That dining table is so very cool! It sure feels good to clean out and organize. Good luck on your continue endeavors!

Wow and wow! Looks great Jane. You guys have worked hard.
Love the table! And I’ll totally buy Smokey off of you! Seriously, it’s the theme for our big boy room!
