I have a bit of news I have been holding back on. The reason I have been kinda stressed out and not totally with it these last few weeks. I’m going on a little trip …
Back about 6 months ago, my boss traveled to India to train our coworkers there. She spent 6 weeks there! At the time, she had asked if I ever would be interested in going to India to train people. I said heck yeah! Whenever else would I get a chance to go overseas … to India … and not have to pay for it???
Well, it has been on the back burner all these months, and finally they gave my trip the green light. However, I will not just be going to India (oh my gosh – I’m going to India!!), I am also making a stop in London!
So basically it looks like this –
1. November 3 – fly from Colorado to London
2. November 7 – fly from London to Mumbai
3. November 17 – fly from Mumbai to London, 5 hour delay between flights, and then from London to Denver
So, I will be gone exactly 2 weeks. I can’t believe it!
I never have really traveled much of anywhere. Even growing up, we never went on vacation. The first traveling I really ever did was in college, when I was in our choir, and we would travel to a few different states on tour. The only place outside of the US I have been is Toronto, where I went on a work trip a few years back.
Honestly, I am more of a homebody. I love being home, and never really have been into vacations or seeing different places. Especially with our Sprucing up the Beehive project, I am loving our house, and I love being home! I promise to do some more posts on how our house is turning out – we just have to buy a few bigger ticket items, so I am trying to save some money!
Maybe to some people, this would be an ordinary thing – traveling overseas for work – but for me, this is HUGE! I don’t like going to restaurants I’ve never been to just because I might not be able to find the bathroom! Let alone, being in a totally different culture! I know I am going to have to rely on people to help me navigate through day to day living.
And, yes, it is only 2 weeks. I can do 2 weeks! I think?
aI’m going to miss these 2 faces!
And I am worried about food… I’m planning to take some snacks, and hope that I do ok with food! I know I won’t be in control of what I will be eating.. I’ll just have to do my best! I am trying to stretch my diet a little bit, and see what my stomach can take, just because I don’t want to be sick all the time!
I’m hoping I can still do some posts while I am going, but we will see!
One thing I am excited about is that I will be in India during Diwali – Festival of the Lights – which is huge holdiday! I think it is kind of like their Christmas! I have always been so interested in different cultures and learning how people live, so I am really excited for this!
So that is what is going on with me. In less than a week, I will be in London! Eeeekkk!!
Any tips for traveling? Please – help a girl out!

I am so excited for you! I’ve never been to India. My sister has spent a considerable amount of time there for work so if you have any specific questions ask away and I will see if she can help. Wow what an amazing opportunity.

I went to India about a dozen years ago… it was quite an experience. I’d like to go back someday, but you know how that goes… I can send more details about my experience privately, if you want, but just be SO sure to watch the water. I drank some water at a hotel that was marked drinkable, but that meant for locals, not for tourists, and I got really sick. And of course, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!
Oh no! I would love to hear about your experience! I do know not to drink the water, but I’m so used to drinking and using water here, I am sure I am going to have to really remember not to use the water!!
I made trip to India last year. The country is so colorful & enriched with diversified culture. Try to visit the southern part of India, it is the heaven. Beaches, coconut trees, spicy foods & green trees are fabulous. Still miss the beauty of Kerala.
You are going to visit a colorful country for sure. Have a safe trip

Thank you so much! I am going to Pune, and I think some of my coworkers there have some fun things planned
I am looking forward to meeting people that I have only communicated with on instant message … should be fun to put faces to the names!
Congratulations! My BIL is Indian from Bombay and I know that their culture is quite interesting. Be ready for the culture shock, but also be open to everything you see. Indians have a certain way of being that you just embrace while you are there. In the case of foods, well, ask what ingredients are in the meal and eat bits at a time.
Have fun

Thanks so much Maria! I am really open to other cultures, so I am so excited to learn about their culture! My boss who has made the trip said that everyone is so welcoming and like you say .. embracing of having you there. I am so excited! I do feel like this is something that I was meant to do, so I can’t wait to see what is in store for me!
The furthest west I’ve ever travelled is DesMoines, Iowa, although i’ve been up and down the east coast a lot. I’ve only canoed in Canana, never actually stayed there, so I don’t think that would count!
My husband and I dream of going to Italy – and hope to make that a reality someday – so excited for you though Jane!

Thanks, should be fun! Funny that I hwve to go east to go futher west! lol!
Jane, I’m so excited for you! I’ve never been to India, and have always wanted to go. Wow you are going to have quite and adventure.
Two foods I always bring… miso soup packets: a quick and satisfying snack or breakfast; lara bars – again these little guys pack a satisfying punch. Indian food is amazing and I bet you’ll come home with all sorts of new inspiration.
Safe travels to you!!

Thank you!! I hope I do come home with lots of inspiration! Thanks for the suggestions — I will make sure to pack both of those!
India is a marvelous place full of excitement & beauty. You will be amazed by watching the cultural difference in different area & their customs. Lots of things are there to watch. But the thing I was in trouble was the spicy food. The food is so spicy there & it was little bit tough for me to digest

ahhh! I will have to watch that, thanks!
Jane this is so cool! I was wondering where you were traveling when you mentioned a trip. I figured it was a short trip to spent time with family but this is so huge! Wow! London and India! I’m very exited for you too. And I’m the same as you, new things scare me and I’m nervous even to go in new restaurants, just like you. I know you will do great though! Are you going alone or is your boss going with you?

haha yeah I didn’t want to say anything until I knew all the details were set. Luckily, I do have someone else going with me! Not my boss, but another coworker. Which is one reason I’m a little nervous, I don’t know him that well, and not someone I probably would choose to hang out with for 2 weeks straight.. but he has been to India before, so that will definitely be a bonus!
How fun!!! My advice is – don’t over pack! I have done a fair amount of overseas travel, and it can be exhausting trying to navigate big airports with heavy luggage! International flights usually play great movies – or even give you your pick – though!
Thank you! I am definitely an overpacker, so I need to try to condense … Luckily, I am flying business class! Should be comfy, hopefully!!
Oh wow! It’s like looking in the mirror when I read this post (I am a homebody too and don’t like new places because of not knowing where the bathrooms are located.) I am so excited to be an armchair traveler to your trip Jane! I wish you safe travels.
THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!!
I would check out a guide book from your library. Even if you don’t have much time for sightseeing, it will still give you some good health and safety tips and a few commonly-used phrases.
I imagine that your company is setting you up with room and board and you’ll have local company contacts the whole time, right? That’ll make everything a lot easier.
Hooray! I’m so excited for you!

Yes, 5 star hotels and business class the whole way who hoo! Thanks for the ideas!
Oh my gosh Jane, you are going to have SUCH an amazing time! Yeah, being away from home is hard, but just think about everything you’re going to see and do! You better take lots of pics so you can post all about your trip–I’d love to go to India some day!

I promise, I will! I am getting a new camera that is smaller than my regular so I should be able to take lots of pics … should be exciting!!
Though I am a new reader of yours, I can’t help but to be excited for you! That is huge! I’m a homebody too, so I can relate to how you’re feeling. It is 2 weeks though and I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself immensely. I can’t wait to hear about it.
You are going to have so much fun!! I love Indian food, so I’m a bit jealous! I always travel with lots of snacks and bars!!

So excited for you. This is definitely a big deal! Can’t wait to hear all about it. I wish you safe travels. I hope you enjoy everything about it. The only travel tip I have for overseas is: For Jet Lag…when you get where you are going…don’t go to bed until it is bed time in the time zone you are in. It’s brutal…but if you take the much wanted nap it takes longer to get in synch. And: drink lots of water.

Thank you! I will have to remember to drink enough water. Our flight out is an overnight flight (I leave here at 6:30pm and get in London at 9:30am their time)… so I think it will be challenging getting there in the early AM! But, Sunday is really the only day for any sightseeing … so we will see! I’ll keep you posted
What a fabulous opportunity!!!! I’m so excited for you!! You are going to do great both with your training and with your diet! Think of all of the new wonderful food you’re going to get to taste, not to mention the eye-candy in the beautiful sites! I’m so envious, but so very happy for you!

It is such a fabulous opportunity. Today I’m trying to spend as much time with my 2 favorite boys as possible! Gorgeous day here too!
How exciting! Flying business class and staying in five star hotels will ensure that you will not have to worry about meals. You can request a special meal for on the plane before you leave and your hotel restaurants will be able to accommodate you diet as well. Don’t worry and enjoy this wonderful opportunity.

Wishing all the best travel mercies. God be with you!!
And looking forward to a safe return.
I can’t help it but I have to say, “Be safe, be careful.”

That sounds like such an amazing trip, even better when you don’t need to pay for it! I’m going to Bangladesh and Nepal late this month, also courtesy of work. My travel tips include bringing lots of granola bars, a big purse where you can fit everything you need, lots of movies on your kindle/nook/ipad, and an old fashioned paper book- cause you never know when you’ll be stuck without power. Enjoy yourself!

Thanks so much for the tips!!! I made some protein bars I am going to take, and I have made packets of oatmeal for quick breakfasts. Hmmm stuck without power, fun fun. I am super excited, thanks again!!
AH! I have been missing your cheery sweet and beautiful self lately and wondered what you were up to!
HOW EXCITING! I hope your trip is GREAT! Keep us all updated and take LOTS of pictures!
(you can tell how excited I am for you by the amount of caps lock and exclamation points….. lol)
Praying for safety and ease of travel!
