The last two weekends, my husband and I have been working on creating another garden space in our lawn! Cause you know however big your garden is, it isn’t big enough! There are always other things you want to try grow! I keep coming up with these plans in my head like … ooooh we could plant this here .. or see this little tiny space, how about we plant this here?
We have a deck on the back of the house, and this little path is an area you can walk around the deck. It has been filled with rocks. Thus, I am calling it the Walkway Garden!
Underneath the rocks is just dirt, so we decided to remove the rocks, work the soil, add some topsoil, and see what we can grow here!
Ta da! Most of the rocks we just shoveled under the deck, so that wasn’t too bad. Then my husband took a pickax and worked the soil into clumps (which had been packed pretty tightly!)
At this point, we just added some top soil on top of it.
We added some compost, my husband roto-tilled it, and then I got to plant!
He put a pole in the middle of the garden so we can put a sprinkler on it for easy watering. It worked out well!
One thing I am learning is we really can take any space in our yard, and convert it into garden space, or room to grow trees. Our soil is SO rocky, you really just have to work it and mulch it with a lot of compost to make it compatible for growing. But, it works!
Now I just hope the seeds I planted come up!
