This last weekend, we went on a brief vacation – back to IL to visit family! I was able to see this guy – my nephew!
He always is so much bigger every time I see him! He recently started band, and is playing the trombone, so was practicing
So much fun!
Here we are, shortly after we landed in Chicago.
I kind of had a rough time with food while I was there. In my head, I always think things will work out, but not being in charge of my food was hard! My parents are basically meat and potatoes type of people, so I thought I would be ok, but the “hidden gluten” in things really made it hard. However, we did go out to lunch on our last day there, and I had a great meal! Baked cod and broccoli – really good!
We didn’t take Sammy with us – we had a friend watch him. I missed him so much! We were sent this picture of him – doesn’t he look sad?
My parents have a relatively new dog – an Australian shepherd and border collie mix. She was so much fun to play with!
It was good to pick him up when we got back, but for a while, he was just confused .. I don’t know if he didn’t remember us, or didn’t understand what was going on. Anyway, it is good to be home, and do some of my own cooking!
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I might not be blogging a lot this week. I will try to hop on when I can, however! I will be on Facebook periodically, so you can look for me there!
I am also pausing for a moment to remember 9/11/2001 – lost but never forgotten!

I wish we could have taken him with us, but it would have been an extra $300 … not worth it for just a few days!

I completely unplugged, so it was nice! I think Sammy has sufficiently recovered, although we did kinda spoil him once we got back!

It was fun to see everyone. I thought the trombone was so cool! I mean, what kid just out of the blue decides he wants to play a trombone???
Your nephew is too cute!! It is so hard to eat when traveling isn’t it??? I feel ya!!

Do you feel really terrible when you have gluten? I’m sorry that part didn’t go well for you. I can imagine the trial of having a food allergy! It sounds like you had a good time though. Poor Sammy, he looks traumatized! I hate leaving Jessie, if we go for more than a few days she gets depressed and then she’s like Sammy, confused when we get home and it takes her a while to bounce back.

I know! That was totally Sammy! Poor little dude. Yeah, I don’t have celiac disease, but gluten just bothers me. When we were visiting some relatives in IL, I had some ice cream, which I wasn’t thinking at the time, but it was cookies and cream so DUH the cookies part had gluten. We were sitting at a table just chatting, and I alternated between feeling like I was going to pass out, and wanting to throw up. I kept drinking water hoping that would help, because I didn’t want to act 5 years old and say “Daddy can we go home now?” lol
I am glad you got to visit your family! Poor Sammy looks like he is thinking, where is my Mommy?!

I know, I’m sure he was thinking that! The people watching him have 2 little-ish dogs (but bigger than Sammy, I’m not sure what kind of dogs they are), so I am sure Sammy was busy chasing them around all day long. When we picked him up, I think he was just confused like … ummmm what is going on now? But, he has recovered and is back to cuddling and sleeping all day
I think he likes being an only dog
