Winter is a-coming

I love fall!  The colors, cooler weather, and the promise of snow is a nice change of pace!  This weekend my husband got out the telephoto lens and took these pictures!

All of these pictures are from our backyard!

One of our aspen trees…

Wouldn’t this be breathtaking without the power lines?  The next place we live will not have power lines!

This is the closest my sunflowers got to blooming!  The rest all died from frost before turning yellow

And what would pictures be without Sammy in them?!?

He was on a mission, can you tell?

Then I decided to make chili!  Nothing special:  1 lb ground beef, 3 types of beans (black, pinto, white northern), tomatoes (diced and sauce), a few poblano peppers, cumin and chili powder, and then cooked all day in the crockpot — and lots of toppings were added!

Also topped with some chevre!

This made a huge pot!  We are going to be eating chili all week, but I don’t mind!

So its official – I have made my first soup of the season – winter is right around the corner!  (Not to mention the day after my husband took the above pics – our mountains now have snow on them!)

Happy Monday!

  1. Ah the pictures are beautiful. I am feeling fall and winter on the way too. Enjoy your chili–I like the chevre atop the bowl.

  2. I think it’s breathtaking even with the power lines. Great photos. Denver weather channels are claiming we might get snow on Thursday. I’m an avid birdwatcher and I can’t tell what the birds are. Do you have any ideas? Ravens? Turkey Vultures? Love the shots of Sammy.

  3. Hoping autumn lingers a bit longer. We are trying to see how long we can go without starting the furnace. Been pretty nippy in the evening but the fire’s nice. You live in a beautiful part of the world, Jane!

    • We have our furnace set to 55 … but it has come on a few times! Getting excited for starting the wood burning stove – that is my hubby’s job this weekend – chop wood!
